Who is Sterling Labs designed for?
Sterling is designed for any curious investors who want institutional-style research and market interpretation without having to assemble separate data, research, and AI systems. If you have skin in the game — you are a customer.
Does Sterling Labs replace an investment professional or a customer’s own judgment?
We aim to do so, but we are not there just yet. Sterling is designed to accelerate research and improve decision support for now. As a registered investment advisor our job is to watch the markets on your behalf through the lens of top-tier data assets and report back with top-tier advice.
Personal data and AI
Does Sterling use customer personal data to train AI models?
No. Sterling does not use customer personal data, prompts, linked-account information, or portfolio holdings to train general-purpose or foundation AI models. Customer information is used only as needed to provide, secure, support, and improve the customer’s experience, subject to Sterling Labs’ privacy policy and applicable law.
What personal data does Sterling Labs use?
Sterling uses limited personal data needed to operate the service, such as account and contact information, authentication and security data, billing information, support communications, product preferences, and usage information. If a customer chooses to link a brokerage account, Sterling Labs also uses the linked account and holdings information needed to provide portfolio monitoring, diagnostics, and relevant insights. Sterling Labs does not require customers to link a brokerage account to use the platform.
Is linked brokerage or portfolio information used for any purpose other than serving the customer?
Linked-account information is used to provide the monitoring, diagnostics, and insights requested by the customer and for related security, compliance, and support purposes. It is not used to place trades, take custody of assets, or train general-purpose AI models.
Does Sterling Labs use personal data in its market or alternative-data products?
Sterling Labs’ research is focused on securities, companies, industries, and market behavior—not on identifying individuals. Where a licensed dataset originates from consumer activity, Sterling Labs uses aggregated, de-identified, or otherwise appropriately licensed data and presents company- or market-level analysis rather than individual-level records.
Do third-party AI providers train on Sterling Labs customer data?
Sterling Labs uses enterprise and API-based AI services under terms and controls designed to prevent customer content from being used to train providers’ general-purpose models. Sterling Labs sends only the information needed to perform the requested task and applies contractual, technical, and access controls appropriate to the workflow.
Data sources and licenses
How much data does Sterling have?
We have over 300 unique data feeds across 25 institutional data vendors. Our goal is to scale to 50+ data vendors by the end of the year. For the next several years every dollar in revenue we generate will go back to buying more data assets.
Where does Sterling Labs get its data?
Sterling Labs combines licensed third-party data, public and primary-source information, customer-authorized data, and Sterling-generated calculations and analysis. Sources can include market and options data, company fundamentals and estimates, SEC filings, company materials, earnings transcripts, news and financial media, macroeconomic data, ownership and positioning data, and alternative datasets such as card transaction data, web and app traffic data, supply chain analytics, shipping data, satellite images, web scrapes, and others.
Is Sterling Labs licensed to use third-party data?
Sterling Labs obtains third-party data under commercial licenses or other applicable permissions. Each source is used according to its governing agreement, including restrictions on access, attribution, redistribution, retention, and the creation of derived analysis.
Does Sterling Labs resell or expose vendors’ raw data?
Sterling Labs primarily provides research, analytics, alerts, explanations, and other derived outputs. We are in the business of selling outcomes. We do not give customers unrestricted access to, or permit reconstruction of, a vendor’s underlying raw data unless the applicable license expressly allows it.
Who owns the analysis generated from licensed data?
Data vendors retain ownership of their underlying data. Subject to the applicable vendor agreement, Sterling Labs retains its independently developed models, methods, software, and derived analysis. Customers receive the rights to use Sterling Labs outputs described in their subscription terms.
RIA status and investment advice
Is Sterling Labs a registered investment adviser?
Yes. TM37 Inc., doing business as Sterling Labs, is an investment adviser registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Registration does not imply that the SEC has approved or endorsed Sterling Labs, its services, or any investment recommendation.
Does Sterling Labs provide investment advice?
Yes. Sterling Labs provides investment advisory services through its subscription-based online platform. These services include AI-powered research and analytics, investment idea generation and screening, portfolio diagnostics, monitoring of brokerage accounts a customer chooses to link, and natural-language investment insights relating to publicly traded securities.
Does Sterling Labs manage accounts or place trades for customers?
Not yet. Sterling Labs does not provide discretionary portfolio management, take custody of customer assets, or place trades. For now customers make their own investment decisions and execute transactions through the brokerage of their choice. Very soon, we will offer our own asset management products.
What obligations apply when Sterling Labs acts as an investment adviser?
When Sterling Labs acts as a customer’s investment adviser, it is required to act in the customer’s best interest and not place its interests ahead of the customer’s. Customers should review Sterling Labs’ Form CRS, Form ADV brochure, advisory agreement, and other disclosures for the scope of services, fees, conflicts, and limitations.
Freshness, latency, and event-driven analysis
Is Sterling Labs event-driven or based on static research?
Both, depending on the workflow. Live and near-real-time features are event-driven: new prices, filings, news, alerts, transcripts, and other events can trigger ingestion, analysis, and customer-facing updates. Deep research, fundamental datasets, and certain derived analyses also use scheduled or on-demand refreshes because their source data changes less frequently or requires more extensive processing.
How quickly does Sterling Labs respond to real-world events?
Latency depends on the source and the amount of analysis required. Market-data and alert workflows can update within seconds of receipt; event explanations and conversational answers may take longer when Sterling Labs needs to retrieve multiple sources, run calculations, or generate a source-grounded synthesis. Provider delivery times, market-data entitlements, eventual consistency, and source verification can also affect availability.
Quality, transparency, and limitations
How does Sterling Labs reduce the risk of unsupported AI answers?
Sterling Labs separates the evidence layer from the language model. Provider feeds, databases, primary-source documents, and deterministic tools supply facts and calculations; AI models retrieve, compare, explain, and summarize that evidence. Important outputs may include citations, timestamps, source context, uncertainty, and counterarguments.
Are AI-generated answers always correct?
No AI system is error-free. Data can be delayed, incomplete, inconsistent, or revised, and AI-generated analysis can misinterpret evidence. Customers should inspect citations and freshness, test important conclusions, and validate high-stakes decisions against primary sources and appropriate professional review.
Is there human involvement in the product?
Yes. Human experts help define data mappings, relevant KPIs, peer groups, data-specific caveats, event context, validation rules, and research standards. This expert layer is particularly important when raw data is incomplete, ambiguous, delayed, or easy to misinterpret.
What asset classes and securities does Sterling Labs cover?
Sterling Labs’ advisory tools are designed primarily to help customers evaluate publicly traded securities. The broader intelligence platform also uses related market context such as options, futures, rates, currencies, volatility, macroeconomic series, prediction markets, and industry or factor data where relevant to the analysis.
Where can customers find regulatory and service disclosures?
Sterling Labs’ current Form CRS and Form ADV materials are available through the SEC’s Investment Adviser Public Disclosure website by searching for TM37 Inc. or CRD number 339681. Customers may also request current disclosures from support@sterlinglabs.co.
